Interview with Jason Whitelaw (Tauranga)
Q. Who are you, and what keeps you busy?
I’m Jason, my business partner and I run a personal training studio in Tauranga, Beyond Fitness. We offer personal training, physiotherapy, group training, pilates, and a whole lot of motivation to get healthy. I’m originally from Christchurch and love the accessibility to the hills and the beach here.
Q. What did you love about TEDxTauranga last year?
Being a public speaker myself, I was really impressed with how engaging the speakers were. I particularly remember Vikki Kelley challenging us to engage with each other in the audience rather than our technology, it was like a face off!
Q. What changed in your life following TEDxTauranga last year
I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and Dr Rodney Ford’s talk on the effects of gluten really made me re-look at what I was putting into my body and how I was treating my nutritional intake as a whole .
Q. What are you looking forward to about this year?
I’m interested in what drives people to success and results, so Dr Harold Hillman will have some things to teach me.
Q. What TED talks do you recommend to people?
I’m a big fan of Tony Robbins, and find his talk on the 6 Human Needs really influences the work I do with our Beyond Fitness clients. He has a fascinating TED talk Why Do We Do What We Do. He talks about emotion being the force of life and how we can better understand what is truly driving us.
